Submission Guidelines:
Let’s Say Gay is open to queer artists between the ages of 13 and 18, and is currently accepting short fiction, flash fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, visual art, and photography. We only accept one entry per category, but welcome submissions in multiple genres (you may submit one entry for both poetry and photography). LSG’s submissions are open this year from April 17th-July 1st. Submissions are free. Please submit all entries via email at LSGLitJournal@gmail.com.
-Stories and poetry should be submitted in a word document with clear font. Please number pages.
-Entries in fiction and creative nonfiction should be no more than 4000 words. Excerpts from novels and academic essays are not accepted.
-Flash fiction pieces should be no more than 1000 words.
-All art pieces should be submitted in a .Jpeg, .PDF, .SVG, or .TIFF.
-Photography submissions should be submitted in a .Jpeg or .TIFF or high resolution .PNG
LSG accepts simultaneous submissions, but please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere. We don’t accept previously published pieces, but self-publication on your own social media doesn’t count and won’t disqualify your pieces. No cover letter is required for submissions, and your anonymity is guaranteed if desired, however we will need your age, preferred pronouns, and your name in the body of your submission email. Please attach your submission to your email and enter “Category Submission” as the subject line. If you are entering into multiple categories, attach the files into the same email and include both submissions into the subject line:
“Poetry Submission” : “Flash Fiction Submission.”
Selections are broken into two age-based categories: 13-15 and 16-18. Proof of age will be required for applicants whose work is chosen. Your piece will be published with your age and your first name, or the penname you choose. Your submission can be printed with full anonymity. Safety is paramount. If you are unable to save your work to a computer and need to submit directly into the body of the email, please contact us and we can consider your submission. Along with safety comes consent. We will not accept submissions on the behalf of someone else from teachers, parents, or friends. Your work must come from you.
On behalf of the LSG staff and volunteers, we thank you for considering our journal as a place to express your beautiful, unique voice. We believe art empowers communities everywhere, and are extraordinarily proud to say gay.
We cannot wait to hear from you!

A Note to Our Allies!
Our focus in creating Let’s Say Gay was to give voice to queer youth, and we are currently only accepting submissions from young writers, poets, artists, and photographers who identify as such. We understand, however, that creating space for some may feel exclusive to others, and do not in any way mean to disrespect the validity of heteronormative narratives. We encourage our cisgendered and heterosexual allies to consider these other excellent youth journals for submissions:
-Bridge Ink
-One Teen Story
-The Weight
-Parallax
-Skipping Stones
-The Adroit Journal
